Daily Soccer Updates

“The ball is round, the game lasts ninety minutes, and everything else is just theory.”

— Joseph Sepp Herberger

Hello everyone, this blog will be covering soccer around the world and mainly the top 5 European leagues which include the Premier League, Serie A, Bundesliga, Ligue 1, and La Liga. With this blog I would like to keep everyone who follows updated on what is going on in the soccer world. The coverage will be including but not limited to, scores, standings, transfers, rumors, gossip, and any interesting or outstanding breaking news in the sport that may be relevant. I would like to provide my own insight on the topics at hand and obtain rights to provide any images or videos of highlights that would be of importance. My target audience for this site will include a wide variety. Soccer is a sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds. I would like to bring in people who enjoy the sport already, those are sports fans in general, and those who may be looking to get into following the sport. With this target audience in mind I would like my site to have all the information needs that would adequately suffice. I would have in depth analysis for those who are hardcore/diehard fans and general and basic analysis for those just jumping into the sport.

This image is of a player doing a “david beckham style” freekick. The reasoning for this image relates to the concepts behind remix in Lawrence Lessig’s work. Lessig states

“Remix has nothing to do with technique, because the techniques this
work employs have been available to flmmakers and videographers from
the beginning of those forms of expression. What’s important here is that
the technique has been democratized for anyone who has access to a ffeenhundred-dollar computer. Anyone can take images, sounds, video from the
culture around us and remix them in ways that speak to a generation more
powerfully than raw text ever could. That’s the key.”

This free kick is the same style and uses the same technique, but it is the player’s adaptation to such a freekick.

Final Blog Post

Throughout the process of creating my own blog I have realized that this is something I want to do on my own going forward. There were many memorable projects and assignments I did throughout the course that I thoroughly enjoyed. I learned how to use some programs that I can see being beneficial to me in the future. One of the assignments I enjoyed the most was the screenomatic project. I liked the process of screenrecording on my laptop and essentially walking my viewers through my topic. I liked learning more about something I knew a lot about and teaching it to the rest of the world. I liked that for much of the assignments it was about what I was interested and I was able to talk about what I wanted because it was my blog. When students are able to do something they enjoy and are passionate in, they will put more effort into and do a better job. That is something I truly believe. Regarding the final project, it was interesting to say the least. I liked that we were researching something meaningful, such as a nonprofit organization. We were looking into and learning more about an organization that truly helps a lot of people and makes a big difference in people’s lives. Also because of the global pandemic, it was more impressive my group was able to do the project completely remotely. It is great that we have technology available to all of us that allowed us to complete the project in an efficient manner. The final project taught me to be patient and instill trust in my members to get the job done. Being able to write about sports, and a nonprofit sports related organization was even more exciting to me. It was nice that I was paired up with a group that felt the same way. All things being considered, this blog has been fun and interesting to do. I will definitely continue talking about soccer and everything it has to offer, whether it be through here or another platform, and either now or sometime in the near future.

Know Your Soccer Meme!

Here are three soccer memes that you should know about.

  1. All of these memes relate to my topic and target audience. They all apply to people who enjoy soccer and are willing to get a bigger understanding of the sport. The memes can be enjoyed by anyone as long as they know a little bit of context. These memes are from within the last few years and are still relevant to this day.
  2. Each meme has its own ideal. An ideal of a meme is “the concept of idea conveyed”(Davidson, 123). The first meme is wishing everyone happy 2017 on New Year’s Day in 2017. This meme was used to showcase the scoreline of the World Cup Semi Final game between the two teams in which Germany humiliated Brazil 7-1 on their own home soil. The next meme talks about how Tim Howard could save anything even an asteroid heading for earth. This was because of his record breaking performance in the world cup which saw him make 15 saves against Belgium. The next meme is about the different types of headaches we can go through but the biggest one of all would be supporting the team Arsenal. They bring their fans a ton of disappointment and their decisions are often met with severe headaches.
  3. The Origins of my memes are from social media platforms and spread through there as well. The most notable are facebook and twitter. The memes are created there and are reposted, liked, favorited, and retweeted.
  4. The manifestation of my memes come from soccer and can be applied outside of it as well. They also bring in outside memes to apply to soccer. The first one takes the scoreline of a soccer game to apply it to a date. The next meme talks about how a goalie making saves in a game can end up saving the world. The last meme brings in a meme that is meant to talk about headaches, to talk about headaches a soccer team gives its fans.
  5. The manifestation of my memes greatly appeal to my target audience. My memes much like the game of soccer, are easy to learn, understand, and laugh to. They can be enjoyed by all without having to do much thinking.

Lebron James Family Foundation Podcast

In this Podcast I talk about the Lebron James Family Foundation. This is a nonprofit organization created by Lebron James. This group aims to assist underprivileged children specifically in Akron, Ohio through the I Promise School. This is a school meant to serve children in grades 1-8 to obtain an education they might not have been able to receive otherwise. You can learn more about the foundation and donate to help the cause at https://www.lebronjamesfamilyfoundation.org/

I collaborated to discuss the nonprofit with other creators including

Kunal Sinha, his site is https://dragoballden.home.blog/

Keenan A Reid, his site is https://keescoveragecompany.business.blog/

History and Evolution of the Premier League

  1. The purpose of this video was to talk and educate people about the most popular soccer league in the world, the English Premier League. Since it is the most popular soccer league, I felt it would appropriate to make a video about the creation of the league what has happened in it and where it is today. This is a video that was made for all audiences as it could knowledge gained from it could be useful to anyone.
  2. Cites I used in the production of my screencast were https://www.premierleague.com/stats and https://www.gettyimages.com/photos/english-premier-league?family=editorial&phrase=english%20premier%20league&sort=mostpopular
  3. I expect users to find my video in a multitude of ways. I will be posting links to the video on my Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. I will also post flyers around various locations on campus telling people about my channel. I am sure people will find it worth watching as it is about an interesting topic. The Wolf article discusses many things that I feel will help users find my videos. In the article Wolf talks about how recommended videos allows content creators to have their videos shared. Since my video is talking about the most popular soccer league, I am sure that if people were watching sports videos, or soccer videos, my video may come up as a suggested video. Wolf also discusses how DIY videos are viewed because people may find the need to complete a task or learn about something. If somebody is interested in following soccer or learning about the premier league, I believe they would come across my video.

Header Image Post

  1. These header images are perfect for the target audience of my website. I want my website to show that it is for people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. Soccer is the most popular sport in the entire world. I want to show everyone that this blog is a welcoming community that is open to all.
  2. I found these images on Google Images. I know that they are available for reuse because on Google Images there is a filter that allows you to search for images that are labeled for reuse.
  3. I used image editing techniques to sharpen the images and put them in a place where I felt like they belonged. I wanted to put soccer images inside of a soccer field, and was able to do that using the multi layered image technique.
  4. My production process compared single-layer bitmap image of the sort that Davison describes was not that far off. For my image I kept it simple much like how it was back in the days of Microsoft Paint. Many of the MS Paint images used horizontal and Vertical lining in their images and I did the same. I used Vertical alignment for the images on my field. However the difference in my images were that they were of real pictures. I had high resolution pictures in use for my production.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
